Spring is right around the corner and there’s no better time to get into the spirit. That’s why I came up with this spring counting printable. It has two difficulties depending on your child’s age and is good for toddlers and preschoolers.

My youngest kids are in kindergarten now so we’re getting a bit too old for printables. Still, they found the harder one fun! Especially with the cute, cheerful spring themed pictures on it.

Why Counting Printables are Good for Kids

They’re a great introduction to numeracy, but counting printables also have other uses. First of all, they help kids identify differences between objects. Bees, ladybugs, and butterflies are each their own thing and are counted separately.

Another great thing about early childhood printables is that they are less abstract than just identifying numbers. In other words it gives the numbers they’re learning meaning. So when a child counts 8 bees, they can relate that number to the picture and see that number represented.

Enhance Your Learning

Besides just counting, there’s a few things you can do to modify this printable in fun ways. For younger kids, work with them or have them cross out each item as they count it. Or you can challenge older kids by having them count without touching or marking the paper.

After you’re done counting each item, work with kids to find the total. Younger ones can count everything and older ones can add the three numbers together.

Finally, ask questions related to the picture and the answers. That can be something like “What bug do you see the most/least of?” or “How many more flowers are there than bunnies?”.

How to use this free printable

The one with bees, ladybugs, and butterflies is great for younger learners while the other one is perfect for older ones. Toddlers and younger preschoolers might be able to do both with a little practice, though. For older kids, choose the one with bunnies, flowers, and birds.

Just download the PDF (below) and save it to your computer or print directly from your browser. Both pages are in the same file so you can print both or just the one you want.

You’re welcome to use these files anywhere – in your homeschool, preschool, kindergarten classroom, or just for fun!

Tip: If it’s getting cut off make sure to “fit to page” so it adjusts for your printer’s margins.
